Visiting St Katharine’s House in Milford Haven for the first time, it’s the warm pink walls and a glimpse of terracotta roof tiles tucked away behind the Edwardian walls that hint at the oasis of calm within; and once inside, all thoughts of the outside world are left behind.

This stately former vicarage turned family-run B&B boasts luxuriously decorated rooms with restored traditional features, along with all the modern comforts you could wish for in a holiday retreat. There’s an atmosphere of upmarket style and a nod to the immersive history of the house. Rumour has it that the foundation stone was laid by Lord Nelson himself, he was very much a part of the story woven around Milford Haven’s maritime past.

There’s three smart en-suites with king sized beds and luxury Myddfai toiletries. Nantucket is flooded with natural light from its private balcony which boasts views over the south-facing garden, on to the Haven and the sea beyond. Guests also have the use of a drawing room, with a cosy fire and deep buttoned sofas.

St Katharine’s House is an immaculate escape that combines the privacy and comfort of an exclusive-use property, with the ease and convenience of catered accommodation. There’s to die-for bed linen and spoil yourself with a genuinely locally sourced Pembrokeshire breakfast, served on high quality porcelain and in crystal cut glass. It’s as elegant and stylish as it is delicious.

For daytime excursions, owners Richard and Sarah Hearne are happy to provide a packed lunch, which will come in handy when meeting the puffins at the unique wildlife reserve of Skomer Island, the rugged beauty of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, and the nearby cathedral city of St Davids. After a busy morning you can take to the peaceful garden for afternoon tea.

Come nightfall, Milford Marina is the ideal spot for dinner, drinks, and watching the world go by. Relax over dinner and a glass of wine before returning home to the comfort of your room at St Katharine’s – just a five-minute walk from the Marina.

For visitors travelling by public transport, St Katherine’s can easily be reached via Milford Haven train station, with nearby tourist hotspots accessible by bus or on foot. Avid walkers can pull on their walking boots and make the most of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park right from the door, and luggage transfers can be arranged. The pretty harbour town of Tenby is within reach too.
