More Information

Emma and Roger Stevens are experienced, genial hosts, offering the highest standards of hospitality and food. Dinner is the main event here, in a candlelit restaurant that showcases modern British cooking with a hint of the Mediterranean.

Roger, a professional chef (he’s the former Head Chef at the Waldorf Hotel, London), is widely known for his accomplished and enthusiastic use of locally sourced and wild produce from farmers’ markets. It’s an approach that has won him, amongst other awards, a ‘Sustain Food Challenge’. And it dovetails with the entire business - the house is run in an environmentally friendly way, a commitment recognised by many ‘green’ awards.

Lasswade, an elegant period country house, is relaxing and homely in atmosphere. Guests can unwind in the comfortable drawing room warmed by a real log fire in winter. The bedrooms, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, are spacious; light and comfortably furnished, and the bathrooms have soft towels and organic toiletries.

The house stands on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain, famous for its inventive - not to say bizarre - programme of annual events that includes a Man Versus Horse Marathon and International Bog Snorkelling.

On the doorstep of the wild, untouched Cambrian Mountains, the brooding Epynt Hills and the Brecon Beacons, it’s the ideal base for walking, birdwatching and other country pursuits. Interestingly, it’s one of our few rural country houses that can be reached easily by public transport - in this case, the scenic Heart of Wales railway from Shrewsbury to Swansea. Discounts are available for those travelling by train.
