Roger and Emma Stevens are experienced, genial hosts. Roger has brought many years of working in the hotel trade to Lasswade, a tall, turn-of-the century house on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd, the self-styled ‘greatest little town in Britain’. Lasswade is traditional and homely in atmosphere and décor. Guests can relax in the comfortable lounge with a drink before enjoying dinner in the highly acclaimed restaurant. It fully deserves its ‘good food’ plaudits: Roger, a professional chef, sources most of his ingredients locally and is a keen and long-standing advocate of the organic movement. The entire hotel is run in an environmentally friendly way, a commitment recognised by many ‘green’ awards including the 2007 Sustain Food Challenge. The comfortable bedrooms – most with spectacular views of the untouched hills of ‘Wild Wales’ – are furnished in traditional style. The location is ideal for enjoying all manner of outdoor pursuits, including Llanwrtyd’s weird and wonderful events (a ‘Man versus Horse’ marathon, world-championship bog-snorkelling, etc, etc!). Interestingly, it’s one of our few rural hotels that can be reached easily by public transport – in this case the scenic Heart of Wales railway that runs cross-country from Shrewsbury to Swansea.
