You’ll know you’re in Wales when you stay at The Grove. We say that because many B&Bs are bland and unreflective of their location. The Grove isn’t like that. Welsh themes are much in evidence in its three country-style rooms - named Conwy, Ogwen and Menai - with interior design concepts by Laura Ashley and contemporary luxuries like Egyptian cotton bedlinen, duck down duvets and soft, fluffy towels.

The Grove also expresses the personalities of its hosts, Mair and Gerry Baker. They like sharing their experiences and knowledge. The latter isn’t just local, for this well-travelled couple’s wide range of interests includes gardening, golf, walking, male voice choirs and malt whisky.

Their elegant Edwardian house is well located too. Victorian Llandudno, medieval Conwy and the Isle of Anglesey are all on the doorstep, and the mountains of Snowdonia begin in the Bakers’ own back yard.
