Greystones should really have another name. From spring to autumn its outstanding two-acre garden is bursting with colour. It’s no ordinary, amateurish green space: much of it has been landscaped by well-known gardener, writer and broadcaster John Cushnie. But the two people really worth mentioning here are your hosts Cameron and Magy Beard. Greystones is their home, and they go out of their way to make you feel relaxed in it. Not that it’s difficult in this utterly peaceful hideaway with its big, comfy sofas, books and luxurious, spacious bedroom suites, each with its own living room or sitting area. Cameron is also a talented cook so make sure that you sample one – or a few – of his delicious dinners (available by prior arrangement). Greystones combines green fingers with good food and gorgeous surroundings in border country close to Powis Castle and Llangollen.
